The third of three phases of a new streetscape and multi-use trail currently slated for construction in 2024, extends along Main Street, Ft. Wayne Avenue and E Street in downtown Richmond, Indiana.
Given the volume of traffic and extent of one-way streets in the district, pedestrian safety and traffic calming were deemed priorities, achieved by reducing travel lane widths and placement of appropriate landscape plantings at intersections.
Design elements include decorative sidewalks and crosswalks, ADA improvements, trees, other low-maintenance landscape plantings and lighting using similar materials and finishes from the first two phases.
An extensive public input initiative included four public presentations to allow residents to share their thoughts, concerns and ideas with local leaders and the design and engineering team and obtain public consensus.
