The City of New Albany engaged a multidiscipline consultant team of landscape architects and engineers to develop a vision for their historic main street corridor, Mansion Row. Broadened pedestrian ways, planted medians, lighting, strategically-placed raingardens, decorative pavement and custom address markers highlight this historic corridor. Landstory delivered a contextual and unique streetscape solution. Gateway monuments located at each end incorporate patterns of the surrounding historic architecture and New Albany’s industrial heritage as a steel truss manufacturer. Wide, raised medians were added and enhanced with ornamental plantings, trees and low maintenance perennials. Segments of historic limestone curbs were excavated and reoriented in the medians as edge treatments to lend authenticity to the streetscape as part of the preservation of this important New Albany corridor.
